Warrenton Town Council Approves Amazon SUP But the Fight Continues
In early morning hours of February 15, 2023, the Warrenton Town Council voted 4-3 to approve the Amazon Data Center on Blackwell Road. They did so in the face of overwhelming opposition from citizens of the Town and County, and after trampling on core principles of democracy.
For Protect Fauquier, "IT'S NOT OVER."
Litigation against the Town Council is under serious consideration, for violating the Town Council's own procedures, Code of Ethics, and policies; and for contradicting its own Comp Plan, and other counts. In addition, PF is committed to using the election process to unseat those who betrayed citizens by approving Amazon and trampling on core governing principles. We will actively support the election of Town and County officials who stand against data centers in inappropriate places and stand for an open, transparent, and respectful democracy in our small town and beautiful county.
Finally, let's all take credit for slowing down a fast-tracked application and forcing the town, Amazon and Dominion to deal with a multitude of issues:
Dominion Energy abandoned their original eight-mile long twin 230kV transmission line options.
Amazon changed their basic building design to improve its overall look.
Amazon incorporated changes to supposedly reduce noise.
Amazon agreed to leave more existing trees than originally planned.
We shined a bright light onto the current Town government behavior that was well hidden from Town residents. This will have serious consequences in future elections.
We put data center developers on notice that Fauquier/Warrenton residents will fiercely push back on data center plans that would harm our rights to peaceful enjoyment of our homes and property.
